Stanley Tollman is the founder of one of the world's largest travel group, The Travel Corporation. When he established the company, he had already been working in the international travel industry for many years and saw the need for a sort of "umbrella" organization that could represent the multitude of excellent travel operators. The companies that are part of The Travel Corporation today include more than 25 brands offering a variety of family and luxury travel. They provide a multitude of professional travel services that cover riverboat cruises, organized family vacations, out of the way adventures, and tour packages to many areas of the world. The all-inclusive corporation, the brainchild of Stanley Tollman, takes care of all arrangements including travel by coach, air, sea, and train.

Trafalgar Tours, one of the first of the Travel Corporation brands is one example of a TTC company intending to add a wide range of new offerings for its clients in the future. In recognition of the growing tourism and travel industry world over, and in Asia in particular, there will be particular focus on this region. Gavin Tollman, CEO of Trafalgar Tours and nephew of founder Stanley Tollman, recently announced that Trafalgar will be establishing its Asian regional headquarters in Singapore. This move will position the company particularly well to address the outgoing tourism needs originating in Asia, and particularly in China, where a new type of Chinese traveller has emerged looking for individually customized, luxury holidays.

Starting from the Bottom

Stanley Tollman is native to South Africa but moved to the UK when financially hard times considerably hurt all of his holdings. England was a good place to start his business life again because his family already owned shares in a touring company, Trafalgar Tours, and a local hotel. From those minimal beginnings he began building and growing a tour operating business until the time was right to create The Travel Corporation (TTC), which is now run by family members.

Birthday Celebrations in South Africa

In 2010 Stanley Tollman celebrated his 80th birthday and took the opportunity to draw visitors to his homeland. By coordinating between ministers in the South African government and senior representatives of TTC, The Travel Corporation hosted its 2010 International Sales Conference in South Africa. Hundreds of travel delegates representing many large organized travel operators attended the conference. During the six-day conference, attendees got a chance to see the hidden beauties of South Africa through the eyes of native South Africans. They visited remote locations, learned about the history and geography of the country and even worked together constructing small Wendy homes that were donated at the end of the conference to local underprivileged families. In addition, Stanley Tollman chose five worthy charities in South Africa and donated substantial gifts to them in honor of his birthday.

A Life in Food and Wine

Bea Tollman, wife of Stanley Tollman, recently wrote a book of memoirs recounting their lives dedicated to fine cuisine and hospitality. As young newlyweds, they stepped right into the industry by opening a small hotel with a kitchen in Johannesburg. They began experimenting with new recipes using good quality ingredients and special techniques. By observing their clientele's favorite dishes they tailored their menus to fit those preferences. At another one of their venues, The Stable, they offered not only elegant dining choices but also popular cabaret style entertainment, making that restaurant well known internationally.

Supporting Noble Causes

Stanley Tollman is passionate about doing his part to preserve animals on the verge of extinction in South Africa. His devotion extends to saving various forms of regional wildlife and plants as well as ancient rock paintings. He also supports budding South African artists through the Tollman family art award, established as a means for regularly supporting and encouraging present day artists to continue their work.
